With lively clubs catering to every musical taste, you'll find plenty to
do after the lights go down in Indianapolis. The two main areas for
nightlife are downtown and in the northern neighborhood of Broad
Ripple. Jazz still sounds great in Indy. Try the Chatterbox for the
feel of classic jazz in a nostalgic and well-established local bar. In the
Broad Ripple district, the Jazz Kitchen also serves up various jazz styles
from both local and national performers six nights a week. Broad
Ripple is packed with club opportunities. The Vogue is one of the city's
premiere dance and live music clubs with bands playing mainstream, blues and
alternative sounds. Peppers offers live rock on one floor, deejays spinning
on the other. For the simpler pleasures of the brew pub, try the Corner Wine
Bar, a cozy joint where bluegrass is played on the weekends. Back
downtown, the Slippery Noodle lays claim to being Indiana's oldest bar. This
is the place to go for straight blues with local, regional and national acts
on the bill. Check out the artifacts that date back to the bar's beginnings
in 1850. For something a little bit different, how about combining
top-quality billiards, dining, and music at Chalkies. If your funny
bone needs tickling, Crackers Comedy Club has stand-up comedians from the
national tour Tuesday through Sunday. They have locations in both Broad
Ripple and downtown. The fast-on-their-feet folks at ComedySportz takes
audience suggestions to build improvised -- and often hilarious --
scenes. For local listings, pick up NUVO, the free weekly, or get the
Guide section of the Star News.
