The five Ball brothers, who became wealthy by manufacturing glass canning jars, gave the state the campus of Ball State University. On the university campus, you can visit the Ball State Museum of Art, where works ranging from the Italian Renaissance to modern times are displayed, and the Minnetrista, a nature and cultural center with galleries devoted to history, art, and technology, plus Oakhurst Gardens. Christy Woods offers 17 acres of trails and greenhouses, one of which is the Wheeler Orchid Collection. The Prarie Creek Resevoir has 1,256 acres, ideal for boating, fishing, camping, and spending time on a beach. Also visit Glass and More, which has glasswork, candles, and silk flowers, and the Ball Jar Museum.
Youngsters will enjoy the interactive exhibits at the Muncie Children's Museum while model-builders will find much to admire at the National Model Aviation Museum. You can also see over 300 animals at ME's Zoo.
