Interstate 10 (from New Orleans) and Interstate 12 lead into the southern part of Baton Rouge, where they connect with Interstate 110, the chief north-south highway through the city. From I-110, exit at Convention Street for downtown Baton Rouge. The streets of downtown Baton Rouge in general run either parallel or perpendicular to the Mississippi River. Rush hours usually fall between 7 am and 9 am, and 4 PM and 6 PM. Multilevel parking garages are at St. Louis Street and near the river. Parking lots, metered street parking, and some free street parking are available. Numerous hotels are located on College Drive and Airline Highway.

Bus:Capital Transportation Corporation is the mass transit company in Baton Rouge. Buses run every day from 5 AM to 11:30 PM. The basic fare is $1.25. Transfers cost $0.25. Call 225-389-8282 for general information, routes, and schedules. Taxi:The city regulates taxi fares. Taxis charge $2.50 for the first mile and $1.60 for each additional mile. Choose from Mackie's Airport Cab Service (225-357-4883), Yellow Cab (225-926-6400) or the independent taxis of Baton Rouge. Taxis are not as readily available in downtown Baton Rouge as they are at the airport.

Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, Ryan Field (BTR), located four miles north of the city, is the major airport serving Baton Rouge. (225-355-0333) Transportation from the airport to downtown Baton Rouge: Check whether your hotel provides free airport transportation. If not, rental cars are available. Bus:Ask at the airport about the Capital Transportation Corporation's Scotlandville Shuttle at Badley Road. The shuttle will take you to 72nd and Scenic where you can transfer to the Scotlandville Bus, which goes to the downtown bus terminal. Taxi:Cab fare should be $15-$17 for one person to downtown Baton Rouge. A taxi for one person from the airport to the hotel district of Baton Rouge may cost as much as $20. Ask your cab driver about the fare before you leave. You do not have to take the first cab in line.
