Daniel Chester French's heroic statue of the Minute Man stands at Old North Bridge in Minute Man National Historical Park. Here the Battle of Concord was fought. At the Concord Museum see a lantern that hung in Boston's Old North Church as a signal to Paul Revere to begin his now famous ride, and memorabilia of Concord's great writers--Emerson, the Alcotts, Thoreau, and Hawthorne. Other historic sites are The Old Manse (1770), home of early ministers, including Emerson's grandfather; the house where Emerson lived as an adult; the Wayside, home of Amos Bronson Alcott and Nathaniel Hawthorne; Orchard House, where Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Women;0 and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, with the graves of Hawthorne, Emerson, Thoreau, Daniel Chester French, and the Alcotts. Nearby are Walden Pond and Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.
