Considered by many to be the greatest of the 19th-century whaling ports, New Bedford is still heavily relient on the sea with fishing, cargo, and pleasure craft bobbing in its busy harbor. At the Whaling Museum on Johnny Cake Hill, you can see a huge collection of whaling memorabilia and board an 89-foot, half-scale model of the whaling bark Lagoda0 . Across the street, you'll find Seamen's Bethel, a setting for a chapter in Moby Dick0 . Other interesting stops include the Rotch-Jones-Duff House and Gardens Museum (1834), the New Bedford Fire Museum, and Buttonwood Park Zoo. The Ernestina0 , a Grand Banks fishing schooner first launched in 1894, is moored here when not at sea. A recent attraction to open is the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park.
