Worcester is approximately 40 miles west of Boston, just north of Interstate 90 (the Massachusetts Turnpike). Interstate 290 passes north-south through Worcester. Main Street and Worcester Center Boulevard run parallel to I-290. Route 9 cuts east-west across I-290, Main Street, and Worcester Center Boulevard. Worcester has morning (approximately 7-9 AM) and evening (approximately 4-6 PM) rush hours, but without the huge volume of traffic in larger cities like Boston. A good map will come in handy, as Worcester's streets are not laid out in a strict grid. Also, be aware of one-way streets, which can be troublesome. Rates for parking in lots and parking garages are reasonable. Metered street parking is also available. All major car rental services are available at the airport.

Bus: Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) buses travel throughout the city and to 14 surrounding cities. The basic fare is $1.25 and transfers are $0.25. Additional fares are based on zones. Some travelers fly to Boston's Logan International Airport and take ground transportation to Worcester.
