Maryland's capital city is imbued with a deep sense of history, with structures that date back to the 1690s still available to be viewed. The Old Senate Chamber in the State House, where George Washington resigned his commission from the continental army, is an impressive remnant of an earlier era, while the Banneker-Douglass Museum of African-American Life and History features artifacts and exhibits that present a unique perspective on the region's past. Historic buildings in the area include the William Paca House and Garden, the Chase-Lloyd House (where Francis Scott Key was married), the Charles Carroll House, St. John's College (1696), and the Hammond-Harwood House. Southeast in Edgewater is the restored London Town House and Gardens. Annapolis is also home to the U.S. Naval Academy, where you may view parades, sports events, and other ceremonies. Beneath the beautiful Academy chapel is the tomb of John Paul Jones. The Academy Naval Museum in Preble Hall has interesting exhibits. Guided walking tours of Historic Annapolis, trolley tours and ghost tours are among many option for seeing the city. Narrated boat cruises depart regularly from the Annapolis City Dock seasonally.
