The historic National Road (US 40), an important gateway to the West, passes through the Narrows, a picturesque gap through the Allegheny Mountains. The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park ends near here. Mountainous state parks and forests in the area include Rocky Gap, Dans Mountain, and Green Ridge. The Gordon-Roberts House in the Washington Street Historic District has a museum.
