Wheaton is a residential and commercial center in the northern Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. The Metro subway service puts the major attractions of the nation's capital within easy reach. Locally, nationally-acclaimed Brookside Gardens and Brookside Nature Center (in Wheaton Regional Park) offer two conservatories, 50 acres of themed outdoor gardens, wooded hiking trails, a pioneer homestead, and animal displays for children.
At the National Capital Trolley Museum in Silver Spring, you can see and ride 17 streetcars from Washington, D.C., and other cities. The museum has been active since 1959, when the District of Columbia ended the streetcar service that had served the nation's capital. The antique shopping in Kensington (4 miles away) is fantastic.
