This resort town became famous in the 1880s because of the "miraculous" healing powers of the local water. Poland Spring Water is still bottled here and shipped all over the U.S. The historic Inns at Poland Spring offer economical resort-style vacations. You can also visit the nearby Sabbathday Lake Shaker Community and Museum, where the last Shakers continue to work and live in the old ways. Shaker arts and crafts and examples of the famously simple Shaker furniture are displayed at the museum. Tours of the grounds and buildings are also available.
