Saco (and its twin city of Biddeford) had its birth as a mill town as early as 1653. With the rambunctious Saco River providing water power, Saco became a major industrial center of lumber, textile and brick mills. In the historic downtown, you'll find the Saco Museum, Maine's third oldest museum and an important repository of local fine and decorative arts and historical artifacts. For family theme park fun, you can visit Funtown USA, with dozens of rides, games and attractions, including Thunder Falls Log Flume Ride, The Galaxie Roller Coaster, The Excalibur: the only wooden roller coaster in New England. Nearby, Old Orchard Beach is a popular coastal resort area.
