Located on Lake Huron's Thunder Bay, the city is a center for recreational boating, fishing and scuba diving. The Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and its Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center give the public a chance to experience and appreciate the nearly 200 shipwrecks that have occurred near here. Visitors can take a glass-bottom boat shipwreck tour or board one of the tall ships that regularly sail into port in summer. The Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan features regional art, history and science exhibits and Dinosaur Gardens is populated with 25 life-size replicas of prehistoric birds and land animals.
