Car

Lansing lies at the junction of Interstates 69 and 96. These two highways, along with extensions U.S. 127 and I-496, form a beltway around the city. I-496 splits off this beltway to provide highway access to the city center. Highway 43, which is also marked as BL96, provides city-center access as well. Lansing's streets are based on a loose grid, but are named, not numbered. A good map will help you find your destination without much trouble. Rental cars are available at the airport and at locations downtown.

Public Transport

Bus: Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) (517-394-1000) provides public bus service to Lansing, East Lansing, and neighboring townships. In general, service runs from 6 AM to 11 PM on weekdays, with reduced schedules on weekends. Fare is $1 (exact change) and transfers, which must be requested at boarding, are free. Tokens are available at a discount when purchased in packages of 10 or more.

Taxi: For cab service, call Capitol Transport Co. (517-482-1444). Rates include an initial fare of $3, plus $2 for each subsequent mile.

Airport

Capital City Airport (LAN) lies just north of Lansing via BL96 (North Grand River Avenue). A ride into downtown Lansing should take about 15 to 20 minutes in normal traffic.

Transportation from the airport to downtown Lansing:

Public Transit: Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) (517-394-1000) route #14 provides service from the airport to downtown Lansing. Service runs approximately every 45 minutes or less between 6:30 AM on 6:05 PM on weekdays; call for weekend schedules. The trip downtown takes about 20 minutes.

Taxi: Capitol Transport Co. (517-482-1444) provides taxi service from the airport to destinations in Lansing and surrounding communities.

Limousine: Limousine service is also available, but it is considerably more expensive. Call Lansing Limo and Airport Service (517-372-6100).
