It should come as no surprise that this center of education, government
and industry should harbor a number of great blues venues. The Green Door
Lounge is famous for the live blues you can hear there almost every night of
the week. The Exchange has live music of the jazz, blues and pop variety
from Tuesday to Sunday nights. Tiny Moriarty's Pub packs people in on the
weekends to catch the best live jazz and blues acts in the area.
If you're up for a wild dueling piano show, check out Rum Runners, a
downtown Lansing establishment where deejays spin tunes and pack the dance
floor downstairs. Fans of country music will want to visit the Whiskey
Barrel Saloon for line dancing, bull riding, and live music on Friday and
Saturday night. For a good laugh, try Connxtions Comedy Club; standouts from
the standup circuit appear here Thursday through Saturday.
In East Lansing, near Michigan State University, rock fans will find
plenty of places to hear live music and get up to dance. Rick's American
Cafe books a variety of local and national alternative and rock bands.
Harper's Brewpub is an old favorite watering hole with a lively dance room
in the basement.
For the latest schedules and venue information, consult local
publications such as the Lansing State Journal, the daily newspaper.
