Big Point Sable Light is on the broad beach. Father Jacques Marquette died in 1675 near the present-day harbor, and a huge illuminated cross marks the spot. Automobile ferries travel between Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and Ludington daily. North of the city is Ludington State Park, offering boating, fishing, swimming, and camping. South is White Pine Village, a restored 19th-century community including a courthouse, two museums, a blacksmith shop, a school, a post office, a farmhouse, and other buildings.
