The development of the Dow Chemical Company here transformed this lumber town into a center of industry and cultural activity. Dow Gardens, more than 80 acres, are the original gardens of the home of Dr. Herbert H. Dow, founder of Dow Chemical. Midland Center for the Arts offers concerts, plays, films, lectures, and exhibits. Chippewa Nature Center has miles of trails, an educational center, and a museum on the natural history of the area. Herbert H. Dow Historical Museum, and Bradley Home Museum and Carriage House Hall, and the Herbert D. Doan Midland County Historical Center. Another attraction is the Alden B. Dow Home and Studio. The National Historic Landmark honors the famed architect related to the founder of the Dow Chemical company.
