The harbor of Duluth, the world's largest inland port, hosts foreign as well as domestic freighters. See the ship canal, the famous aerial lift bridge, and the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center. Take a boat cruise of the harbor, a scenic National Scenic Byway along Lake Superior, or an excursion on the North Shore Scenic Railroad, as far as Two Harbors. Highlights are Split Rock Lighthouse and Gooseberry Falls. Visit Glensheen Mansion (1958), The Depot (St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center), and other museums including the Transportation Museum, the Great Lakes Floating Maritime Museum (including the SS William A. Irvin carrier and the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter, the "Sundew"), and the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, with rare manuscripts from 1799-1801. Tweed Museum of Art, the Planetarium, and Performing Arts Center are at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Enjoy the boardwalk and carriage rides of Lakewalk, Lake Superior Zoo, Fond-du-Luth Gaming Casino, and year-round recreation at Spirit Mountain. Don't miss the Great Lakes Aquarium or The Edge indoor waterpark.
