This iron mining town in the Mesabi Range is a center for the production of taconite. The town is the home of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, which honors American players and the sport. In addition to sports memorabilia, you can watch continuous films of the United States' Olympics victory in 1980 and Stanley Cup playoff games.
The Leonidas Overlook, the highest human-made point on the Mesabi Iron Range, provides a spectacular view of taconite mining operations at United Taconite Mine. You can also tour the Minntac facility at Mountain Iron. The Mineview in the Sky provides another panorama of mining activities from 20 stories above the Roucheau Mine in nearby Virginia.
