Founded in 1854, Owatonna is the site of the legendary healing springs, minnewaucan. At Mineral Springs Park, you can still take the waters and see the statue of the legendary Indian princess for whom the town was named. Village of Yesteryear has an assemblage of restored buildings from the mid-1800s including log cabins, a church, general store, and blacksmith's shop.
You can also visit the State Orphanage Museum in the former Minnesota State Public School for Dependent and Neglected Children which opened in 1885 and operated for 60 years. The Owatonna Arts Center and Sculpture Garden, housed in a gorgeous 1886 Romanesque structure, hosts exhibits by local, regional, and national artists. Another standout attraction is the Wells Fargo Bank building designed by architect Louis Sullivan. Shopping is available at Cabela's World's Foremost Outfitters, offering outdoor, fishing, and hunting gear.
