This town occupying the bluffs overlooking the wide Mississippi River takes its name from the title given to chiefs of the local Dakota Indian tribe. It is best known to consumers as the home of Red Wing Shoes and Red Wing Pottery. You can tour Red Wing Stoneware and observe fine craft workers at work. Several vantage points offer vistas of the "Big Muddy" and its river traffic including Memorial Park and Barn Bluff.
The town's architectural treasures include the St. James Hotel, the Sheldon Theatre, and an area of Prairie-style homes. You'll find displays on local history at the Goodhue County Historical Society. Riverboat excursions are available.
