With scenic views of the Flathead Valley and Whitefish Lake, this resort area offers both water sports and land-based recreation. Numerous inns and lodges can be found around the village. Big Mountain Ski and Summer Resort provides top-notch skiing in winter, mountain biking and hiking in summer. Passengers can reach the 7,000-foot summit via the dramatic Big Mountain Chairlift. Whitefish Lake, extending seven miles north from the village, is a popular spot for boating, fishing, swimming, and sightseeing. Railroad buffs will want to stop at the restored station of the Great Northern Railroad where among other railroad memorabilia, you'll find the Great Northern Locomotive #181. The splendors of Glacier National Park are a few miles to the east.
