This bustling, hip, small city has plenty of history, culture, and outdoor recreation. Kalispell was founded with the coming of the Great Northern Railroad in 1891. You can take a walking tour of the city's historic buildings which include the Conrad Mansion, the former home of Kalispell's founder, Charles E. Conrad. The 26-room Victorian mansion features original furnishings and three acres of gardens and grounds. In Woodland Park, you'll find attractive lagoons and formal gardens.Popular Flathead Lake -- 28 miles long, 15 miles wide -- has wonderful recreational opportunities. The branches of the Flathead River offer excellent flyfishing, whitewater rafting, and canoeing. In the Flathead National Forest, you can explore wilderness areas and glaciers.
