Born in 1775 of discord (over where to locate the town) that turned to Concord (hence the name), this charming Piedmont city is the seat of Cabarrus County in the heart of auto racing country. Lowe's Motor Speedway is just south of town. Fans can visit the track as well as the Hendrick Motorsports complex which includes a museum of past race car winners. Concord Motorsports Park, with its quarter-mile and half-mile tri-oval tracks, also has racing events. In Concord's historic district, you'll find Victorian-era homes, Memorial Gardens, and the restored Bost Grist Mill which dates from the early 1800s.
