A huge, three-story-high statue of a bison looms on a hillside near town, recalling the vast herds of buffalo that once roamed these plains. See a live bison herd at the National Buffalo Museum, off I-94. The statue looks down upon Frontier Village, a reconstruction of an early railroad settlement. The land office, the old railroad depot, a jail, a church, a school, a log cabin, and shops are a faithful picture of the period. The popular Jamestown Reservoir with its artificial lake provides swimming, fishing, boating, and water sports facilities, and has picnic, camping, and trailer sites. You may visit the Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center.
