Located at the confluence of rivers joining to form the Red River of the North, Wahpeton, the junction for riverboats and oxcarts streaming to the fertile Red River Valley, is still a transportation crossroads, agricultural center, and gateway to nearby Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site. Chahinkapa Park has a zoo, a wildlife museum, a nature center, recreational facilities, concerts, and a 1926 Spillman carousel. Bagg Bonanza Farm illustrates bonanza-era farm life. North Dakota State College of Science is located here.
