Visitors are welcome at the former home of Franklin Pierce, 14th president of the United States, where you see authentic furniture, household utensils, and scenic wallpaper brought from Italy more than a century ago. Nearby in Hillsborough town are eight sets of magnificent stone arch bridges built without mortar. Current Hillsborough residents include pewter craftsman Jonathan Gibson, one of the top traditional craftsmen in America and the only 20th-century artisan with work in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts permanent collection. His studio is in a 200-year-old barn, and you can watch him work there or browse the on-site shop.
