A small-scale manufacturing and education center, Keene is the cultural and commercial hub of southwest New Hampshire. In the attractive downtown area, with its exceptionally wide Main Street, you'll find numerous craft shops, toy stores, and sweets shops. Keene State College offers year-round dance, theatre, and musical performances. The Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery houses several important American works and presents traveling art exhibits. You can also visit the Wyman Tavern Museum and Horatio Colony Museum. The 3,165-foot granite dome of Mount Monadnock rises to the east of Keene and offers a challenging but rewarding climb.
