In 1710, Elizabeth Haddon emigrated from England and founded a Quaker colony here. Her personal effects and exhibits on the history of Haddonfield are at Greenfield Hall, the headquarters of the Historical Society of Haddonfield. Today the town is a bustling center of shopping and relaxing. The 1858 discovery of Hadrosaurus foulkii is commemorated by a nearly life-sized bronze sculpture in the downtown business district and by a plaque at the dig site, a designated National Historic Landmark. Many of the historic homes, of which there are several, are protected by one of the oldest historic districts in New Jersey.
