Once a center for missile and bomb testing, today Alamogordo puts its contributions to the space program on display at the International Space Hall of Fame. Displays and attractions here include a moon rock, capsules, satellites, a garden, and Tombaugh Space Theater. Also visit Alameda Park Zoo, Toy Train Depot, and Tularosa Basin Historical Museum. See White Sands National Monument, which is the largest sand deposit in the United States, or Oliver Lee State Park, the site of the last Apache stronghold. North of town is Three Rivers Petroglyph National Recreation Site.
