It is best to rent a car rather than rely on taxis. The city is divided into quadrants by Central Avenue, which forms the North/South split, and 2nd Street, which splits the city East and West. These streets loosely parallel Interstate 40 and Interstate 25. The main surface street is Central Avenue, formerly famous Route 66, which roughly parallels I-40. A helpful tip when orienting yourself is that the mountains are to the west.
