Car

Albany is not difficult to negotiate by automobile. The city lies on the west bank of the Hudson River, and major streets generally tend to radiate north and west toward neighboring Schenectady. There are one-way streets in the area surrounding the New York State Capitol, so a good map with clearly marked traffic-flow directions will come in handy.

Public Transport

Bus:The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is the public agency that serves the counties of Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, and Rensselaer. Basic fare is $1. For schedules, routes, and additional information, call the CDTA at 518-482-8822.

Taxi:The best way to summon a taxi in Albany is to call for dispatch. Among the largest local cab companies are Yellow Cab (518-434-2222), Albany OK Taxi (518-482-5555), and Duffy's Taxi (518-482-8400).

Airport

Albany International Airport (ALB) lies approximately eight miles northwest of the city's center, near the junctions of the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90) and Interstate 87.

Transportation from the airport to downtown Albany:

Public Transit:Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) buses serve Albany International Airport. Call CDTA for schedule, route, and fare information. (518-482-8822)

Door-to-Door Van Service:Several limousine services offer transportation into Albany and neighboring towns. Check at the airport's information desk.

Taxi:Several local cab companies serve the airport. The fare from the airport to downtown Albany should run about $25.
