The Capital Cities area offers a broad range of nightlife. Within the city of Albany, you'll find a fair number of pubs and clubs, mostly in the Lark Street area and further downtown along Pearl Street.
Politicians and students alike gather at Justin's, a popular Lark Street spot where live jazz enlivens the mostly American menu six nights a week. For a little jazz, a little blues over a few lingering brews, try Savannah's where bands perform live Monday through Saturday. It's mostly rock and cover bands at the Bayou Café, with live music four nights a week.
If you're looking for a laugh, the Original Comedy Works presents standup guys and gals from the national circuit on Friday and Saturday nights. And while you're in town, don't pass up a chance to visit a landmark power-lunch place for dinner and drinks. Jack's Oyster House, favorite of the political and business crowds, features seafood, steaks, and veal, as well as the ever-fashionable martini.
A half-hour drive will put you in Saratoga Springs, a very popular summer destination with its lake and race track. Jazz aficionados rave about 9 Maple Avenue, a small but very cool joint. For gourmet New American cuisine, visit the posh and popular Siro's, considered the place to go for drinks and live music after the races. For one of the most pleasant outdoor patios in town, visit Gaffney's, which features a casual gourmet menu, a full bar and live musical offerings most nights of the week. And, in the back of the restaurant Maré, you'll find a disco with deejays providing the 70s, 80s, and 90s remixes.
