Cooperstown's claim to fame is the world-renowned National Baseball Hall of Fame. With its $20 million renovation complete, the museum invites visitors to admire plaques honoring baseball greats and displays of baseball memorabilia, watch films and see Doubleday Field, site of the first baseball game. Novelist James Fenimore Cooper lived here and is buried in the Christ Church grounds. His restored house contains family displays, American folk art, paintings, Browere's life masks of famous Americans, and an American Indian wing. Visit the Farmers' Museum, the Fenimore Art Museum, the restored estate at Hyde Hall, Glimmerglass Park, and Fly Creek Cider Mill (1856) & Orchard. The area offers lots of outdoor fun, including golfing, fishing, hiking, and biking. Attend the Glimmerglass Opera.
