Rochester is easy to negotiate via automobile. I-490 is the major east-west route; I-590 and I-390 run off I-490 to provide access to locations outside the downtown area. The Inner Loop (dubbed the "Can of Worms" when it was opened in the 1970s) forms a tight ring around the downtown area. Stay aware when driving on the Inner Loop as exits can come quickly. Rochester's major surface thoroughfares radiate diagonally from downtown, so a good road map will be helpful. Rental cars are readily available at the airport.

Bus: Rochester's Regional Transit Service (RTS) (585-288-1700) provides public bus service within the city of Rochester and surrounding Monroe County. Basic adult fare is $1.25; transfers, which must be purchased at original boarding, cost $0.15. Exact change is required. Taxi: Taxi stands are located at the airport, at the bus and train stations, and in front of large downtown hotels. Otherwise, your best bet is to call for dispatch.
