With multiple colleges and music schools, plus a cadre of young professionals looking for things to do, Rochester provides a sharp array of nighttime diversions. A staple of the Rochester music scene of many years standing, Milestones Music Room presents pop and rock bands, traditional Celtic performers, blues guitarists, and most other kinds of popular musical offerings. They have live bands every night but Monday when they're closed and Wednesday when the Comedy Block Party takes over.
After a few years' hiatus, longtime jazz headquarters Shep's is back with a new name and the same roughhewn ambience. Now called The Clarissa Room, it's still a paradise for lovers of jazz in intimate surroundings. The club is on two levels and the music still permeates to wherever you're sitting.
Looking for hot new bands? Try the Penny Arcade on the shores of Lake Ontario; they've been rocking for more than 30 years.
For a night of laughter, Comix Café presents stand-up comedians from the national circuit Wednesday through Sunday evenings. At the Downstairs Cabaret Theatre, it might be comedy, music, drama, or of course, cabaret. They bring in the best of out-of-town performers from Chicago, Philadephia and places in between.
Back where it all started -- at the High Falls -- you'll find clubs, restaurants and, in summer, a lazer lightshow illuminating the waters and gorge. Live music can be heard at the Cheyenne Supper Club.
