Once the most celebrated spa in the nation, Saratoga Springs is still one of the few American spas that rank with the famous European ones in elegance and entertainment, combined with restorative treatments. The fine performing arts center in Saratoga Spa State Park is the summer home of the New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, and Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. Enjoy mineral baths, or stop at the National Museums of Dance and Thoroughbred Racing. Saratoga Race Course, the oldest Thoroughbred course in the country, opens in mid-July and features more than 30 top-level races through Labor Day. Also visit Petrified Sea Gardens, the National Bottle Museum, and historic Congress Park's 1870s Italianate former gambling casino.
