This commercial, tourist, and agricultural center is nationally known for the size and quality of its pears. Harry and David's Country Store, where pears are prepared for shipping all over the country, features a tour of their washing, sorting, and packaging operations (by reservation only, Monday through Friday). You can also visit rose-shippers Jackson and Perkins, where the extensive test gardens offer a colorful and fragrant display from May through October.
Medford was created as a railroad town and in Medford Railroad Park, you'll find working miniature steam trains. For recreation, the two Table Rock Preserves (upper and lower) offer a opportunities to hike among volcanic basaltic buttes with several unusual varieties of plants underfoot. Outfitters also offer white-water rafting trips on the nearby Rogue and other rivers. The Medford Visitor's Center is at Exit 27 off I-5.
