Founded in 1767, this industrial borough in the historic Pennsylvania coal and iron furnace region grew with the coming of the railroad in 1850. The city is the home of Juniata College. The surrounding area is popular with hunters and fishermen. Raystown Lake is especially noted for bass fishing. You can join sightseeing cruises of the man-made lake at the Seven Points Marina in Hesston or Lake Raystown Resort and Lodge in Entriken. The Swigart Auto Museum displays thousands of antique auto accessories and license plates along with its extensive collection of vintage automobiles. Lincoln Caverns and Indian Caverns offer tours of underground caves full of dramatic flowstone formations. Nearby, you can take excursions into yesterday at the Rockhill Trolley Museum and the East Broad Top Railroad, the oldest intact narrow gauge rail line in the U.S.
