This historic borough across the river from Trenton, New Jersey, was named for Robert Morris, one of the chief financiers of the American Revolution. It was settled by Dutch trappers and Quakers in the 17th century. Five miles south, on a secluded bank of the Delaware River, William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, built Pennsbury Manor. Although the estate fell into disrepair after Penn's death and eventually disappeared altogether, you can visit the reconstructed 43-acre site that includes the 1683 manor house, its outbuildings, and the landscaped grounds. Tools and furnishings are displayed at the blacksmith's shop, icehouse, stables, and other workshops. The displays include a replica of the barge that Penn used to journey on the Delaware River to Philadelphia. Tours are conducted by costumed interpreters.
