Interstate 81 runs through the north and east parts of Scranton. The Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike by-passes the city to the west. Most surface streets are laid out in a grid making finding your way around fairly easy. Numbered avenues run north and south with Jackson Street being the dividing line between north and south addresses.
