Because of old narrow streets and extremely limited parking in the Historic District, visitors are encouraged to park their cars at their downtown hotels, or at the Visitor Center at the corner of Meeting and John streets.

Trolley:The Charleston Transit Administration (CARTA) offers DASH trolley service to points all over the city along three different routes. Most DASH routes cost $1.25 (exact fare required) or $4 for an all-day pass. Pick up timetables and maps at the visitor center, or call (843) 724-7420 for more information. Taxis:Finding a cab in the street can be difficult here, so smart travelers keep a list of taxi phone numbers with them. Express Cab's number is (843) 577-8816. Reach Yellow Cab at (843) 577-6565.
