This economic center of northwestern South Carolina was founded in the 1770s as a mill town on the Reedy River. Falls Park on the Reedy preserves the downtown area where the first mills were constructed. The park includes waterfalls, nature trails, landscaped gardens, and the Liberty Bridge, a cable-suspended 345-foot-long pedestrian bridge that crosses the waterfall; the only bridge of its kind in the U.S. The city is noted for the Greenville County Museum of Art which has an exceptional collection of works by Southern artists. You can also visit the Greenville Zoo or head to the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains for all kinds of outdoor activities.
