The Sioux and Cheyenne fought on top of Battle Mountain over rights to the refreshing hot springs in the area. The springs still bubble, and the spa has built Evans Plunge, the world's largest indoor swimming pool, which is fed by the springs at their natural temperature of 87 degrees. Mammoth Site, with the remains of extinct Columbian mammoths, may be visited. The town has buildings of native sandstone and Victorian homes. Enjoy outdoor sports at nearby Angostura Reservoir. The Wild Horse Sanctuary is to the south.
