Appropriately enough, the superhighways surrounding Dallas seem to form a big "D." Interstates 635 and 20 curve around to the north, east, and south and routes 408, 12, and 35E form the western link between the two. There is also an inner circular highway, Loop 12, within the outer beltway. The distances covered are vast; you will want a car to get around. However, most major attractions are located in either the West End business district or near the fair grounds on the east side, and walking within those areas is recommended. The three miles of underground walkways in the downtown area offer a chance to stroll from place to place out of the sun, wind, and heat.
