Houston's personality comes out strongly in its regional music scene, where latin, zydeco, blues, and country music intermingle. The Bayou Place, the big-time entertainment complex in the downtown theater district, features multiple restaurants, pool hall, film center, and a theater for live performances.
You'll find local blues acts and zydeco every Sunday in the laid-back atmosphere of the Big Easy.
For Latin sounds, try Elvia's. A tiny restaurant with a very popular dance floor, they have live bands playing salsa and merengue Wednesday and Saturday.
For a night of authentic cowboy atmosphere, with favorite tunes spun by the deejays, there's nothing like the Wild West.
McGonigel's Mucky Duck is the site of the best in acoustic music from folk to blues with a huge helping of Irish thrown into the mix. Look for a more traditional evening of Las Vegas-style razzmatazz at Magic Island where comedy, up-close magic, and elegant dining combine for one fun evening.
