The Museum of Western Art displays bronze sculptures and paintings by artists who specialized in the Old West. Y.O. Ranch, northwest of Kerrville, has a huge herd of longhorns and the largest collection of natural-roaming exotic animals in the nation, more than 50 species, including some that are endangered and nearly extinct. Working cowboys lead driving tours. Kerrville is also the gateway to Hill Country, an ever-changing Texas landscape of cedar-studded hillsides and craggy limestone cliffs, rushing rivers and sparkling lakes, hidden canyons and natural springs. Wildlife, especially white-tailed deer, is abundant. A huge outdoor playground provides opportunities for canoeing, rafting, tubing, boating, fishing, hiking and horseback riding. Take a scenic drive, picnic, camp or just soak up the laid-back atmosphere.
