Moab is a great base for exploring the surrounding spectacular natural areas. Outfitters offer guided tours by mountain bike, horseback, river raft, cross-country ski, jeep, or helicopter. Fantastical rock formations are just five miles north at Arches National Park. A little to the west, Dead Horse Point State Park presents spectacular panoramas from 2,000 feet above the Colorado River.
The Dan O'Laurie Museum of Moab has paleontology exhibits and archeological artifacts from the ancient Anasazi and Fremont people to the settlers of the 19th century. To the north off US 191, dinosaur hunters can check out the Mill Canyon Dinosaur Trail, Sauropod Dinosaur Tracksite, and Potash Road Dinosaur Track. The Film Museum at Red Cliffs Ranch houses memorabilia from Hollywood's long history of using the Canyonland's stunning scenery for making movies.
The Moab Slickrock Bike Trail, one of the nation's best, offers a challenging 9.6 mile loop ride that is considered by many to be mountain biking's ultimate challenge. Numerous other bike trails can be found throughout the area.
