Park City boomed with the discovery of silver in 1868. After being almost deserted, the town realized its second life with the ski resort boom of the late 20th century. The town sits at the foot of Park City Mountain Resort. The Canyons and Deer Valley ski resorts are a few miles to the north and south. Several other resorts, including Brighton, Solitude, Alta, and Snowbird are an hour away. Park City has become familiar to movie fans as the site of the Sundance Film Festival, held in mid-January, which highlights the work of independent movie makers. You can also visit the Park City Museum, located in the old city hall; it includes the Utah Territorial Jail and has displays on the town's silver-mining days. Check out the Olympic Park off I-80, site of the 2002 Games.
