Since President John F. Kennedy's assassination, millions have visited his grave site in Arlington National Cemetery. His brother Robert F. Kennedy rests nearby. Visitors are moved by the simple beauty of the Tomb of the Unknowns, watched over day and night by a select guard. The Temple of Fame; tomb of Pierre L'Enfant, who planned Washington, D.C.; Memorial Amphitheater; and other monuments are in the cemetery. Early 19th-century Arlington House was Robert E. Lee's home for 30 years. The U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial (a.k.a the Iwo Jima Memorial Monument) is located in Arlington, as well.
