Once one of the nation's largest tobacco auction markets, Danville's wealthy past may be seen in the beautifully restored Victorian homes lining Millionaires Row. Sutherlin House, now the Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History, is known as the Last Capitol of the Confederacy. Jefferson Davis and his cabinet met here after their flight from Richmond. The Danville Science Center -- located in a renovated Victorian-era train station that still serves AMTRAK -- is loaded with hands-on exhibits that encourage visitors to unlock the secrets of how things work. The AAF Tank Museum displays one hundred tanks and artillery pieces, over 1,200 uniforms, and 1,500 pieces of headgear. The city's first mural depicts the Wreck of the Old 97, made famous in story and song.
